How to Give Students Control of Their Data

Erwin Bomas of the Kennisent Foundation, a public educational organization which supports and inspires Dutch primary, secondary and vocational institutions in the effective use of ICT, will be presenting at SXSW EDU. He will stop by the house to talk about his work. If we want to reap the benefits of collecting and analyzing increasing amounts of data in education, we can no longer ignore the natural owners of these data: students and parents (InBloom). We should develop tools to give students control of their own data. Privacy by user-centric design is a precondition for personalized learning. In this session, we will demonstrate how this works with a mock-up we developed based on the User-Managed Access (UMA) standard and what the main advantages are.
