Good intentions aren't enough. While student data can be used to transform education, educators and entrepreneurs can’t afford to ignore their accompanying ethical and legal responsibilities. This session covers the obligations and optimal practices involved in balancing data's benefits with student privacy concerns. Learn about emerging issues including consent, partnerships between private and public entities and considerations raised by experimental research in digital learning environments.

1) Learn administrative, legal, ethical and technological privacy best practices and protocols.
2) Explore emerging trends and proactive ways to protect student data, including implications of the recent controversy over Facebook research.
3) Examine considerations involved in using student data to optimize and personalize education, technology and pedagogy.
