This panel focuses on the initiatives that make museums experiential, such as concerts, and events that bring in a wider audience. Frequently, in cases such as PS1’s “Warm Up” summer series, crowds of twenty- and thirty-somethings see cutting edge DJs and performances that are normally viewed in concert halls or arenas. By bypassing the traditional venues, the DJs and musical artists create a new experience within a museum setting. In turn, museums garner an audience ready to have an immersive experience, via music, film, or fashion. How does the modern museum come to terms with its new position, and what are we to make of it?
